Are you Monday’s gray and gloomy?
Let’s get some color going!
So, What exactly is “Kpop Monday”? It will be that day of the week, where I put my Kpop playlist on shuffle, get one song and introduce it to you guys! Remember, some songs might be party, sad, happy, chill, new, old and yeah you know all of that~
So the 16th song to go is…..
Run by BTS (Bangtan Boys)
You might remember these boys from the Kpop Monday; year end special where I picked their song I need U as my favorit song of 2015.
The MV to Run makes it clear that the song is a follow up to I need U, but even without the MV the song sort of reminds of the previous title track. So if you haven’t checked it out, I recommend you do, specially since I’ll be mentioning I need U a lot.
So when I say reminds me, I’m talking about the feeling.
The chorus which is easy to remember and guarantees to be stuck in your head still sounds, much like I need U, emotional and powerful, it’s like they are directly singing to the person they love, telling that person that they are running to get there because they only know how to love them and the desperation and want is clearly heard.
What differs from I need U when it comes to feelings is the way the raps sound, they are more laid back, much like the instrumental.
This time, in Run it feels like the raps are stating fact, they’ve accepted where they are, and they might not be happy about it, but it’s just how it is.
I also enjoy the “Don’t tell me bye bye, you make me cry cry, love is a lie lie, don’t tell me, don’t tell me, don’t tell me bye bye” parts.
The filter they’ve used over the voice makes it sound like it comes from far away, and it’s one of those small details that gives character. Also, once again, it’s catchy and easy to remember.
The MV, which also offers english sub and more of the story that we started to follow in I need U.
Of course Run also have a Japanese version that is beautiful and even though I don’t usually mention if the songs exist in other languages, BTS Japanese songs are great~
